Trail Information
Olympic National Park does not allow bikes to be ridden the entire way to the Hot Springs. The bikes may be ridden from Madison Fall trailhead to the Boulder Creek Trailhead (8 miles in) where renters can lock the bikes to a tree or post (bike locks included with rental). The rest of the trail (2.4 miles) must be hiked on foot. There is minimal elevation gain on this trail with three creek crossings.
Biking from Madison Falls Trailhead: 8 miles each way
Beginning at the Madison Falls Parking Lot, riders travel approximately 8 miles by bike to the Olympic Hot Springs Trailhead.
Along the route, riders will pass through the beautiful Glines Canyon area, home of the former upper Elwha Dam site.
Part of the ride includes the bypass trail around the washed-out section of Hot Springs Road. Within the 8-mile bike route, approximately .8 miles each way requires riders to walk and maneuver their bikes along a narrow, rocky trail with uneven terrain.
Hot Springs Bypass Disclaimer:
We want guests to understand that the bypass section can be physically demanding and is not the easiest to navigate. Bikes must be walked and pushed through this section. Depending on the trail condition, you may have to lift the bike over roots or logs a few times. However, guests of all experience levels have completed this journey, and many say the challenge is part of what makes it such a memorable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Be prepared for physical exertion, beautiful scenery, and a rewarding sense of accomplishment at the end of your journey to the natural Olympic Hot Springs.
Hot Springs Hiking Portion: 2.5 miles each way
After arriving at the Olympic Hot Springs Trailhead and parking the bikes, guests continue on foot approximately 2.5 miles each way (5 miles round trip) to the natural Olympic Hot Springs.
